Just ahead of its October 6 premier, the new fall anime “The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life” (popularly known to fans as Chi-Fuyo) released its main promotional video—with an unexpected twist. Comedian Rie Shibata, who plays the “Mother of Assassins,” hijacked the trailer’s narration to deliver a hilarious, special-edition preview for fans.

Rie Shibata Hijacks the Trailer?! Special Main PV Released!

In this latest PV, Rie Shibata—the voice behind the formidable “Mother of Assassins”—actually takes over the narration of the main trailer. Replacing the standard audio you’d expect, the “Mother of Assassins” suddenly crashes the video, providing her own “unique” (and totally unfiltered) commentary on the scenes as they unfold.

The “Mother of Assassins” is an intense character who stands in the way of the protagonist, Rein, and his party. A self-proclaimed “X-Rank Veteran Assassin Warrior,” she raises a massive brood of children with the sole intent of breeding a new generation of elite killers. While she acts as a “Mama” to her assassins, her behavior is wildly boisterous and completely unpredictable. She has a knack for barging into even the most serious situations with an overwhelming presence, throwing the entire plot into chaos. She is the perfect personification of “Chi-fuyo’s” charm—a series where serious drama and absurd gag comedy collide in ways no one can predict.

In this trailer, the “Mother of Assassins” breaks the fourth wall, becoming aware of the promotional video itself as if leaping right out of the anime’s world to crack jokes and comment directly on the footage. Powered by Rie Shibata’s commanding performance, this special-edition trailer sets itself apart from standard anime previews—delivering a experience genuinely hijacked by the “Mother of Assassins.”

With a cast of characters far too eccentric to handle, unpredictable plot twists, chaotic gags sandwiched between human drama, and a high-tension vibe that becomes addictive once you experience it—the “Chi-fuyo” anime is shaping up to be a concentrated dose of beautiful chaos. Don’t miss it.

Synopsis

Rein, an enchanter, is suddenly expelled from his guild one day. Instead of falling into despair, he thinks, “Now I can do anything!” He reclaims the massive amount of “Enhancement Points” he had previously bestowed upon his former guildmates’ gear and sets out on a brand-new path as an independent adventurer.

Gathering around him are those with deep scars: a genius Adventurer who lost her entire party, a Warrior whose family was taken, and an assassin raised only to kill. Yet, Rein never denies their pasts or their wounds; he accepts them with straightforward, bright optimism.

The stage is set in a highly unconventional fantasy world where Uzis, pachinko machines, and even the Yakuza exist. In this world, relying on convenient technology causes one’s magical power to drop, making Adventurers weaker.

Vicious monsters with human intelligence roam the land, while outlaws in the underworld weave schemes fueled by ambition and greed. In a world where ideals and justice are easily crushed, Adventurers fight using only their magic and their convictions.

This is a story of those who lost their place in the world finding a new way to live. Rein and his companions’ wild, free-spirited second life begins now!
