OTSU, Japan - Three people died, and three others were injured in a head-on collision in western Japan between a truck and a car, local police said Monday.

The three killed, identified by the police as Philippine national Ligon Linwell Joshua Meneses, 28, his wife Yuki Sawada, 31, and Yutaka Teshigawara, 27, were among the five in the passenger vehicle in the crash that occurred the previous day at around 6:20 p.m. in Takashima, Shiga Prefecture.

The 33-year-old older brother of Sawada, who had been driving the car, and the Filipino man's 4-year-old son were seriously injured, while the 53-year-old truck driver suffered minor injuries.

The police suspect the car crossed the center line of the road and entered the opposite lane.
