Episode 50: “The Fire-Rat Cloak”
Synopsis
Maomao visits the bustling market on the main street to buy a padded cotton coat for Chou-u. While she’s browsing through the selection at a second-hand clothing shop, Chou-u’s attention is captured by a striking white garment hanging on the wall.
The garment looks like traditional ethnic attire, featuring intricate ivy-like embroidery on the sleeves. The shopkeeper identifies it as the legendary “The Fire-Rat Cloak” (a mythical fireproof garment from Japanese folklore) and begins to weave a tale about the legend surrounding it—a story of a beautiful celestial maiden who vanished into a lake.

As the aftermath of the rebellion led by the Shi Clan calms down, Maomao returns to her daily routine as an apothecary in the Pleasure District. However, a simple breakfast at the Verdigris House sparks a certain “sense of unease” in Maomao, leading her to investigate its true nature.
On the other hand, Jinshi has revealed his true identity as the Emperor’s Brother and begun to shoulder the heavy responsibilities of his rank.
