TOKYO - Tokyo stocks ended higher Monday, with the Nikkei index rising over 2 percent, lifted by artificial intelligence- and semiconductor-related shares amid hopes for further expansion of the chip business.
The U.S. dollar traded mostly around the 156 yen line in Tokyo but lost ground in the afternoon, later plunging to a roughly six-month low against the yen in the 154 yen zone on speculation that the Bank of Japan may decide on an additional rate hike at its policy meeting this month.
