LOS ANGELES - Japanese manga artist and illustrator Takashi Okazaki won an Emmy Award on Sunday for his work on a "Star Wars" animated series.
Okazaki, 52, received the award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for character design on "Star Wars: Visions Volume 3." He worked on one of the nine episodes in the Disney+ anthology series, which features shorts produced by several Japanese studios.
An excited Okazaki told reporters after the ceremony in Los Angeles that he has always tried to do something new and that he was delighted to receive such an honor for a project tied to "Star Wars," which he has long loved.
Okazaki had previously earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Animated Program for his work on the 2009 animated film "Afro Samurai: Resurrection."
Winners of some of the Emmy Awards' most high-profile categories, including outstanding drama and comedy series, are due to be announced Sept. 14.
