U.S., Iran proposed Strait of Hormuz fees defy int'l law: U.N. agency head

LONDON - The head of the International Maritime Organization on Thursday rejected proposals by U.S. President Donald Trump and Iran to charge fees for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, saying such fees are "not in line with international law."

"If it's not in accordance to international law, if it doesn't have a fundamental basis to actually be introduced, it's something that is not applicable," IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez said in an interview with Kyodo News in London.
