LOS ANGELES - Shohei Ohtani hit a solo home run for the game's only run, his 15th of the season and first in three games, as the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 on Tuesday.
Ohtani blasted a solo shot an estimated 427 feet (130 meters) to center field on a 0-0 cutter from Drew Rasmussen (6-3) in the sixth inning. The Japanese player went 1-for-4 at Dodger Stadium.
"I got a hittable pitch there, and I'm glad it led to a good result," Ohtani said of his third at-bat.
"Sometimes I happen to hit (a homer) like I did today, and other times we score by keeping the line moving as a team. Basically, I'm happy as long as I'm able to do my part in the lineup," Ohtani said.
The two-way player is expected to start on the mound on Wednesday against the Rays, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
In other Major League Baseball action, Seiya Suzuki collected two hits in the Chicago Cubs' 5-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies.
Suzuki singled in the first inning and doubled in the seventh, finishing 2-for-4 at Wrigley Field.
