HIROSHIMA - Visitors to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum during Japan's Bon holiday period in August will be required to make reservations online, the facility said Friday, as it seeks to ease congestion.
The museum, which displays materials related to the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of the western Japan city, will cap admissions at 1,000 people per hour from Aug. 8 to 16. Reservations can be made online from Friday.
Tickets cost 200 yen ($1.25) per person for adults and university students. Reservations are currently required only during limited morning and evening hours, but this will be expanded to cover the whole day for the summer holiday period.
According to the museum, the number of visitors has increased in recent years, and the facility was crowded throughout the day during last year's Bon holidays. At times, it was difficult for people to move around inside.
The museum hopes the measure will allow visitors to view the exhibits safely and comfortably.
According to the museum, the number of visitors hit a record in fiscal 2025, with about a third dominated by foreign visitors.
