6 die in apartment building fire in Kitakyushu, southwestern Japan

Six people died in a fire overnight at an apartment building in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, in southwestern Japan, police said Monday.Five other men were treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries but were apparently not in life-threatening condition.The fire occurred at a wooden apartment building in the city's Kokurakita Ward where 16 people lived, many of them day laborers and all living by themselves, according to the police and the local fire department.The police are investigating whether the fire was arson or an accident and trying to confirm the identities of the six victim…READ FULL ARTICLE
