In-form Japan striker Yuya Kubo scored his third goal in as many games and also had a pair of assists as Gent beat Waregem 5-2 in the Belgian first division playoffs on Thursday. With Gent leading 4-1, Kubo raced onto a through ball from Samuel Kalu and swept in the fifth with seven minutes left for his 11th goal of the season. Kubo had earlier set up Kalu to lash home from the edge of the box and make it 3-0 in the 59th minute. "That was probably my first (assist) of the season," said Kubo.
