The city of Kyoto will propose collecting a minimum 200 yen ($1.8) per night tax on guests staying at hotels or other lodgings in the popular tourist area, municipal officials said Wednesday.If the city assembly approves the measure during a session that begins on Sept. 21, all hotel guests -- including those staying at Airbnb-style "minpaku" home lodgings -- will start paying 200 to 1,000 yen per night in lodging tax, possibly from October next year.
