Golf: Matsuyama makes solid start at Irish Open

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama got off to a solid start at the Irish Open on Thursday, carding a 5-under-par 67 in the first round.The world No. 2 opened with a bogey on the first hole at Portstewart Golf Club but regrouped nicely to reel off six birdies and go bogey free the rest of the way.Matsuyama closed out the first round in a share for ninth place, three shots of the lead.
