SHENZHEN, China - Japan's Kao Miura won the men's title at the figure skating Cup of China on Sunday, earning a berth in next month's Grand Prix Final.
Standing top after Friday's short program, Miura recorded personal-best scores of 190.35 points in the free skate and 293.25 overall in Shenzhen, where the third event of this season's Grand Prix Series was staged.
The 21-year-old Miura, who competed in this year's Milan Cortina Olympics, finished second at last month's Grand Prix de France, the opening event of the Grand Prix Series.
"I'm really happy," Miura said. "What was especially good this time was that I was able to get through the competition without any major mistakes overall."
"I still have room to improve my scores," he said. "I want to continue training hard for the Grand Prix Final."
Miura's compatriot, Shun Sato, the Milan Cortina Olympic bronze medalist in the men's singles event, finished fourth, ending his bid for a third consecutive Cup of China title.
Among other competitors, Individual Neutral Athletes Vladislav Dikidzhi and Evgeni Semenenko, both from Russia, finished second and third, respectively.
The Grand Prix Final, to be held in China's Chongqing in December, will feature the top six skaters based on points earned during the Grand Prix Series.
