FUKUOKA - J.League first-division bottom club Avispa Fukuoka appointed former Tokyo Verdy boss Hiroshi Jofuku as their new manager on Friday.

Fukuoka, 20th in J1 on seven points after 13 games, terminated the contract of their former manager Shinya Tsukahara on Tuesday. Jofuku was sacked by fellow strugglers Verdy in early October with no wins after eight matches.

"Building a team in such a critical situation is something I have never experienced," the 65-year-old said through his new club. "I'll give all I have."

Jofuku managed Japan's youth teams before winning the J.League Cup with FC Tokyo in 2009 and finishing second in J1 with Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 2018.
