KYIV - As Russia's invasion of Ukraine drags on, attacks are increasingly damaging facilities operated by foreign companies in the country, including a factory run by a Japan Tobacco subsidiary and a McDonald's warehouse.

JT International SA, which oversees Japan Tobacco Inc.'s global tobacco business, said its factory in Kremenchuk in central Ukraine was hit twice in September, although the plant was not operating at the time and no one was injured.

JTI also said a warehouse in the Kyiv region was attacked in August.

A Kyiv office building housing GlobalLogic, a U.S. information technology unit of Japan's Hitachi Ltd., was damaged in a drone attack on Sept. 25, according to local media reports.

A McDonald's warehouse near Kyiv was also hit by a drone that day, leaving outlets in the capital short of certain menu items.

It was unclear whether the facilities were deliberately targeted, but Russian forces have made extensive use of high-speed drones, raising concerns that attacks could cause further damage to foreign businesses.

Sites which became targets of Russia's recent drone attacks include the National Academy of Sciences building where two people were killed and dozens were injured.

The building, built in the 1850s as a girls' boarding school, is known as an architectural landmark in Kyiv.
