Japan's economic growth in April-June revised up to 1.4%
TOKYO - Japan's economy expanded an annualized real 1.4 percent in the April-June quarter, revised up from an initially reported increase of 1.1 percent, government data showed Tuesday.
Real gross domestic product, adjusted for inflation, grew 0.4 percent from the previous quarter, compared with a preliminary reading of a 0.3 percent increase, the Cabinet Office said.

Japan PM arranging to reshuffle Cabinet, ruling party execs Sept. 16
TOKYO - Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is making arrangements to reshuffle her Cabinet and the executive lineup of her ruling Liberal Democratic Party as early as Sept. 16, government sources said Monday.
The move is likely aimed at giving the Takaichi administration time to prepare for an extraordinary parliamentary session that the government and the LDP-led ruling bloc plan to convene in early October, according to the sources.

TOKYO - Japan posted a current account surplus of 2.99 trillion yen ($19 billion) in July, the Finance Ministry said Tuesday.

Japan's real wages in July rise 2.4% on year, up for 7th straight month
TOKYO - Japan's real wages in July rose 2.4 percent from a year earlier, increasing for the seventh straight month, government data showed Tuesday.
Nominal wages per worker, including base and overtime pay, were up 4.7 percent at 436,401 yen ($2,830), marking the sixth straight month of growth exceeding 3 percent and the first such streak in more than 34 years, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said.

Heavy rain lashes Japan as weather agency warns of landslides, rainbands
TOKYO - Heavy rainfall hit eastern Japan and elsewhere on Monday, with the weather agency urging maximum vigilance against landslides on Niijima, Oshima and Toshima islands, south of Tokyo, and a woman dying in Iwaki in the northeast after her car became submerged.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a special landslide warning for Oshima after more than 580 millimeters of rain fell there over 24 hours, the highest September figure since local records began.

Japan eyes allowing N. Korean athletes to enter nation for Asian Games
TOKYO - Japan is considering allowing North Korean athletes and others involved in the Asian Games to enter the country ahead of the event's opening later this month, a Japanese government source said Monday.
The government has in principle banned North Koreans from entering Japan as part of sanctions against Pyongyang's nuclear and missile development programs, but has made exceptions for sports events. The two nations have no diplomatic relations.

Group firm of Japanese wig maker Aderans ran stealth online ads in 2019
TOKYO - A subsidiary of major Japanese wig maker Aderans Co. ran advertisements disguised as user posts on a popular Japanese online question-and-answer platform in 2019, its official said Monday.
Reizvoll Co., which manufactures and sells women's and medical wigs, paid an advertising firm to post promotional content for its products on Yahoo Chiebukuro that year without disclosing that the posts were advertisements, a practice known as "stealth marketing."

PM Takaichi to skip Japan-held Asian Games opening ceremony: gov't official
TOKYO - Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is expected to skip the opening ceremony for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games that will be held in central Japan later this month, a senior government official said Monday.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place in Nagoya on Sept. 19, with the games to be held through Oct. 4. Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako are among the attendees at the opening ceremony.
