MIAMI, Florida - Shota Imanaga threw solid one-run ball to earn his ninth win of the season as the Chicago Cubs beat the Miami Marlins 6-1 on Friday.
Imanaga (9-10) allowed three hits and struck out four over six-plus innings at loanDepot park.
"Anyone can have a good outing. It means nothing if you can't keep doing it," the Japanese left-hander said.
"Over the final month, I want to pitch well enough to put my name firmly in the conversation for the playoffs."
Kazuma Okamoto drove in a run as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Kansas City Royals 9-2.
Okamoto hit a run-scoring single to left field in the first inning to finish 1-for-5 at Kauffman Stadium.
Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani was not in the Los Angeles Dodgers' starting lineup for a second straight game due in part to issues with his right bicep.
