CHICAGO - Seiya Suzuki had three hits, including his 24th home run of the season, as the Chicago Cubs routed the Milwaukee Brewers 17-3 on Monday.
Suzuki's solo shot to center field in the fourth inning was one of nine home runs by the Cubs as they set a new single-game club record.
It also marked the 1,600th hit of his professional career across Japan and the United States.
"I knew he had a good fastball, so I wanted to make sure I put a good swing on it," Suzuki said after finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI at Wrigley Field.
"If I'm satisfied with the status quo, my baseball career is over. I need to keep pushing myself every day to get better."
Chicago White Sox rookie slugger Munetaka Murakami did not add to his 29 home runs, going hitless but drawing three walks with an RBI in a 6-3 loss to the Houston Astros.
Kodai Senga earned his fifth save after pitching a hitless and scoreless ninth inning in relief as the New York Mets edged the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2.
