DETROIT - Seiya Suzuki drove in three runs with two hits, including a three-run homer, in the Chicago Cubs' 3-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.
After grounding out twice, the Japanese slugger blasted his 21st homer of the season in the sixth inning for the only runs of the game at Wrigley Field.
"We had been in a situation where runs were not coming easily. I was glad to get a hit when I really needed one," Suzuki said.
"From here on, we want to keep focusing on our style of baseball," the 31-year-old said as the season enters its final stretch.
In other Major League Baseball action, Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched six innings of one-run ball to pick up his 12th win this year as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1.
Yamamoto (12-7) allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out nine at Dodger Stadium. Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani finished hitless with a walk.
Elsewhere, Munetaka Murakami hit his 27th home run as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 9-5.
The Japanese rookie blasted a solo shot to right field in the fourth to break a 3-3 tie and went 1-for-3 with an RBI at Comerica Park.
