CHICAGO - Munetaka Murakami blasted a game-tying solo home run, his 23rd of the season, as the Chicago White Sox walked off the New York Yankees 6-5 in 12 innings on Wednesday.
Murakami tied the game 4-4 with his 404-foot (123-meter) shot to center field in the bottom of the eighth at Rate Field.
The Japanese rookie surpassed Shohei Ohtani's Major League Baseball rookie-season mark of 22 home runs, following hot on the heels of Toronto Blue Jays slugger Kazuma Okamoto, who recently passed the milestone.
The 26-year-old's long shot off a curveball from right-hander Paul Blackburn came back-to-back with a two-run home run from teammate Sam Antonacci.
"I was expecting (the curveball) to some extent and was able to react to it," said Murakami, who finished 1-for-4 with an RBI, a walk and three runs scored. "It was great that we were able to come away with the win."
In other MLB action, Okamoto had two RBIs on three hits in the Blue Jays' 5-2 win over the Washington Nationals.
Okamoto had two singles before hitting a two-run double in the eighth inning during his 3-for-5 outing at Nationals Park.
Elsewhere, Ohtani collected two hits as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2.
Ohtani singled in the third and doubled in the sixth to finish 2-for-3 with an RBI at Dodger Stadium.
