Synopsis

The year is 1213, in the city of Tus in eastern Iran. Sitara, a young girl who has lost her mother and been torn away from her homeland, is taken in by Fatima, the kind-hearted lady of a scholarly family. Initially, Sitara hates studying and tries to run away to find a path home. However, Fatima’s son Muhammad, an aspiring scholar, teaches her the vital importance of education, telling her: "If you become wise, you’ll know exactly what to do no matter what kind of trouble you face."

Sitara and the others spend their days quietly but richly, accumulating knowledge. However, that peaceful daily life is suddenly shattered.

The Mongol Empire is expanding its power at a terrifying pace, and the army led by the fourth prince, Tolui, finally reaches the land where Sitara lives. Pushed to the brink of despair as a prisoner of the Mongol army, Sitara is approached by a boy named Shira, who serves as an interpreter for the Mongols.
