TOKYO - A company jointly established by five firms, including Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co. and Japanese car parts retailer Autobacs Seven Co., said Wednesday it will launch a new automobile brand, EMTA, with plans to introduce an electric mini-vehicle model in Japan next year.
The joint company, EMT Co., said it plans to introduce three more models by 2029.
The company will equip the vehicles with technologies optimized for each model's characteristics, including post-delivery updates to driving performance and cruising range, as well as features that allow drivers to adjust settings such as seat positions and air-conditioning temperatures via smartphone.
Decisions on product concepts and design specifications for the first model will be made in Japan, while production is planned in China, the company said. The price and sales target for the first model have not yet been set.
The company is considering making future models in Japan.
