Conan-kun Walks the Red Carpet at the 4th Yokohama International Film Festival!

On Saturday, May 2, the mascot Conan-kun stole the spotlight at the 4th Yokohama International Film Festival’s red carpet event at Red Brick Park, Yokohama, Japan. The atmosphere was electric as the opening notes of the "Detective Conan" main theme—performed live by the film's composer, Yugo Kanno—echoed through the harbor. Conan-kun made his entrance escorted by the Kanagawa Prefectural Police motorcycle unit, looking every bit the superstar.

"Walking the seaside red carpet to a live performance was so much fun!" Conan-kun told the cheering crowd. "In the latest movie, the city of Yokohama gets into some serious trouble, so I was a little nervous coming here today...!"

Composer Yugo Kanno added to the hype, declaring, "Conan-kun is the man at the absolute peak of Japanese entertainment!" The energy reached a boiling point when it was revealed that the female officer riding the motorcycle with Conan was actually the real-life officer featured in the live-action ending credits of the movie! This "meta" surprise drew gasps and cheers from the audience, making it a truly special moment for the fans.

A 430,000-Strong Crowd! Guest Star Mei Hata and Conan-kun Join "The Yokohama Parade"

As a highlight of the "Yokohama International Film Festival × 'Detective Conan: The Fallen Angel of the Highway'" collaboration, guest star Mei Hata and Conan-kun participated in the 74th Yokohama Parade (International Costume Parade) on Sunday, May 3.

Riding in a specially decorated open-top car themed after the movie, they cruised through the streets of Yokohama. The turnout was legendary, with 430,000 people lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the duo against the backdrop of Yamashita Park and the Red Brick Warehouse.

When Conan shouted, "Hello, Yokohama!" the crowd erupted in a wave of applause. Mei Hata also took the mic to rally the fans: "I'm Mei Hata, the guest voice actress, here with the star himself, Conan-kun! Please make sure to see the movie in theaters during Golden Week!"

After the parade, a smiling Hata said, "Yokohama is a place I visited often with friends when I was 19 or 20. Today, there were so many more people than I expected! Seeing everyone waving with such bright smiles really made me feel the warmth of this city."

Stage Greeting at Aeon Cinema Minatomirai: Director Hasui and Producer Yoshida Tease Future Secrets!

The momentum continued at Aeon Cinema Minatomirai, where the stage greeting was a total sell-out. Fans packed the house to see Mei Hata, Conan-kun, Director Takahiro Hasui, and Producer Yoshida.

When the latest box office numbers were announced, the theater shook with applause. Hata expressed her gratitude, saying, "With numbers like these, we might even hit the 10 billion mark during Golden Week! It’s all thanks to you guys." Director Hasui shared his honest take: "I’m incredibly happy, but at the same time, it’s almost terrifying. It really makes you feel the sheer power of the 'Detective Conan' name."

When the MC asked if anyone had seen the film multiple times, the majority of the audience raised their hands. One hardcore fan even claimed to have "captured 15 birds" (a fan slang term for watching the movie 15 times, referencing the "Fallen Angel" theme)!

Hata also shared a funny anecdote about her friends on drama sets, where they teased her by saying, "Who's the killer?" the moment she was cast. Meanwhile, Producer Yoshida dropped a bombshell regarding the anime’s 30th anniversary: "Starting in June, we’re planning monthly collaborations—things that usually only happen once a year. And that 'fan-favorite episode' you’ve all been waiting for? Coming soon..." The teaser sent a wave of excitement through the crowd.

Discussing their favorite scenes, Hata mentioned the ending where Ran, inspired by the "Goddess" on the motorcycle, rides a kickboard. Director Hasui revealed, "That scene was actually a specific request from the original creator, Gosho Aoyama-sensei."

This led to a deep dive into the production process. The team revealed they spend months at Aoyama-sensei's house refining the script, where the creator often sketches out visual ideas on the spot.

Regarding her first voice acting role, Hata recalled observing a recording session for the anime. "It was so quiet in the booth I felt like I couldn't even breathe! It was a precious experience. I was also reunited with Kappei Yamaguchi-san, whom I worked with when I was a child. He was so supportive, even teaching me the proper way to hold a script."

During the voice recording sessions, she was instructed to "don't 'act' it out, just keep the atmosphere as you are." Director Hasui raved about her performance, stating: "I was hoping we could find someone lovely to voice the role, and they turned out to be the perfect fit...! As I recall, there weren't even any significant retakes during the recording process."

Producer Yoshida also revealed, "Even Minami Takayama-san (the voice of Conan Edogawa) was full of praise, saying, 'No matter how hard we try, we could never replicate that kind of fresh, natural energy.'" In response, Hata expressed her delight: "I’m truly happy to hear that. Since Minato Tateoki is a member of the Kanagawa Prefectural Police, please be sure to call me back again!!!" Her enthusiasm for returning to the role drew a wave of laughter from the audience.

Regarding MISIA, who performs the theme song, Producer Yoshida revealed the background of her casting: "Once the script was finished, the producers discussed what kind of song would best suit this movie. We wanted the absolute best person for the project, and that’s why we reached out to MISIA-san."

The Director also shared the vision behind the music: "I heard from MISIA-san that she intended to create the song after reading through the original manga. My only request to her was that I wanted a song that—despite everything that happened in the past—leaves the listener feeling positive and looking toward the future."

Hata spoke passionately about the track's impact: "The charm of the theme song playing at the very end on that big screen is just incredible. I felt such power, but also a sense of fleeting beauty from the music. I thought it was the perfect theme song!"

To close the event, Producer Yoshida commented: "To those seeing it for the first time today, thank you for spending your Golden Week with us! To those who have seen it multiple times, we’ve made it this far thanks to your love. I hope you continue to cherish Conan."

Director Hasui added: "I believe the film is packed with intensity. For those who have already watched it several times, I hope you can clear your mind and enjoy it freshly all over again!"

Finally, Hata concluded the greeting by saying: "The sheer number of people turning out and this level of excitement is truly surprising. I’ve seen this happen every year, but being a member of the team myself makes me so incredibly happy and full of joy. We will continue to need your support, so please keep enjoying this film. Thank you so much for today!"
