Japan's ruling LDP renews pledge to amend Constitution in new vision

TOKYO - The ruling Liberal Democratic Party led by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Friday renewed its long-held pledge to amend Japan's war-renouncing Constitution, in its new vision to mark the 70th anniversary of its founding five months ago.

The amendment "is being called for as a matter of unprecedentedly vital importance in considering our nation's security over the next 30 years," said the party, which eyes stipulating the existence of the Self-Defense Forces in a revised supreme law.
