CHIBA, Japan - Zipair Tokyo Inc., a low-cost carrier of Japan Airlines Co., launched a new route Tuesday linking Narita airport with the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur amid Japan's inbound tourism boom.
Zipair will operate daily round trip flights on a Boeing 787-8 aircraft departing Narita, east of Tokyo, in the evening and Kuala Lumpur after midnight.
At a ceremony for the inaugural flight at Narita airport's Terminal 1, Zipair President Yasuhiro Fukada said the carrier's cumulative passenger total has surpassed 5 million.
"(The Narita-Kuala Lumpur route) is important for further expanding our network in the growing Southeast Asian market. We want to offer many people a new travel option," he said.
The airline, which now serves 10 cities on its international network, aims to further expand its North American and Asian routes.
Zipair plans to launch a new route between Narita and Toronto during fiscal 2026.
