KUMAMOTO - All railway operations affected by a powerful earthquake that hit the southwestern Japan prefecture of Kumamoto in July have been restored, with the last remaining suspended service resuming Tuesday on a section of a local line.

The full reopening of the train service operated by Hisatsu Orange Railway Co., a semi-public sector entity, came after JR Kyushu's train lines were fully restored on the weekend, more than 70 days after the magnitude 7.1 quake occurred. The temblor killed more than 35 people and flattened thousands of homes.
