NAGOYA - Former students from her time as a prosecutor and law professor have voiced support for International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane after she was sanctioned in August by the United States, which has accused the ICC of encroaching on state sovereignty.

Akane taught at institutions including Nagoya University Graduate School of Law while serving as a prosecutor. Some of her former students, now practicing attorneys, have established the Japan International Rule of Law network, or JIRoL, an organization that supports the ICC.
