TOKYO - IDC Frontier Inc., a SoftBank Corp. subsidiary, said Wednesday that a cyberattack involving ransomware had disrupted part of its cloud service for corporate customers.

The Tokyo-based company said the disruption had affected 495 corporate and municipal customers, including by making their websites inaccessible.

The disruption occurred at around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday on its IDCF Cloud service. The firm said it has shut down the system to prevent secondary damage and data leaks, while checking the safety of both affected and unaffected services.

Images purporting to show a statement by the perpetrator have circulated on social media. An IDC Frontier official said, "We are aware that such a statement has been issued, but we are investigating its authenticity."

Major frozen food maker Nissui Corp. said Wednesday that a system failure at a logistics subsidiary using the cloud service has affected shipments to and from low-temperature warehouses handling frozen foods and other products.

The websites of the Ibaraki prefectural government and the prefectural police also became inaccessible.

"We deeply apologize for causing significant concern and inconvenience," IDC Frontier said in a press release, adding it plans to resume the suspended functions once their safety has been confirmed.
