TOKYO - Yokozuna Onosato defeated title rival ozeki Aonishiki in an emphatic fashion to capture his first title in a year at the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament on Sunday.
Having thrown away his two-win lead with successive losses through Saturday, Onosato (12-3) was back to his best against Ukrainian star Aonishiki (11-4) in the final bout of the 15-day meet at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan.

Tokyo Metro says 59,000 customer email addresses may be compromised
TOKYO - Subway operator Tokyo Metro Co. said Sunday that about 59,000 email addresses of its rewards program members may have been compromised due to unauthorized access to its server.
The breached server does not store any other personal information and its vulnerability has already been addressed, the company said.

Japanese trade promotion group led by ex-foreign chief visits China

100,000 carp swept away by flooding in Chiba after typhoon
CHIBA, Japan - Around 100,000 Nishikigoi ornamental carp ready for sale were swept away after heavy rain caused by a typhoon breached some levees at a lake in Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo, it has been revealed as authorities assess the widespread damage to local farming and fisheries.
Typhoon Dujuan, which approached the region about a week ago, inundated rice paddy fields and other farmland while flooding facilities where carp and eels were being cultivated near Lake Imbanuma in northern Chiba.

OSAKA - Kansai airport in western Japan aims to expand its international routes, the head of the operator has said, revealing that discussions are underway with airlines on the resumption of flights connecting it with India and Indonesia.
"We want to thoroughly capture demand and increase the number of new routes" for international flights at Kansai International Airport, Yasuaki Mikami, representative director and CEO of the operator Kansai Airports, said in an interview with Kyodo News.

NAGOYA - Amid a nationwide shift in which women's universities in Japan are either going coeducational or closing due to the country's shrinking student population, one school in Nagoya declared earlier this year that it will remain women-only, arguing that such institutions are still necessary.
"(Women's universities) foster students to become people who can overcome the invisible hurdles that exist in society," Yasuo Sugiyama, chairman of Sugiyama Jogakuen University, said in an interview in June.
