Japan to study use of AI-equipped humanoid robots in defense

TOKYO - Japan plans to explore the use in defense of humanoid robots equipped with physical artificial intelligence, government and ruling party sources said Tuesday, as the country's Self-Defense Forces struggle to secure enough recruits.

The potential introduction of such robots in noncombat situations, including base patrolling and logistical support, would help reduce manpower. The sources, however, took a negative stance toward their use in combat operations.
