FEATURE: Landmark Hotel Tateyama in Japan's Northern Alps closes after 54 years

TOYAMA, Japan - A landmark hotel high in Japan's Northern Alps has closed after more than half a century, ending a 54-year run in which it welcomed nearly 1.7 million guests and became a familiar sight for visitors to one of the country's best-known mountain routes.

Hotel Tateyama, located at Murodo, the highest point on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route at an altitude of 2,450 meters, closed at the end of August.
