Typhoon nears central, eastern Japan, halts transportation services, events

TOKYO - Typhoon Dujuan was tracking toward the Pacific side of central and eastern Japan, including the Tokyo area, on Sunday, disrupting transportation services and forcing the cancellation of events in the middle of a five-day holiday period.

JR East plans to halt some limited express services running in Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo, on Monday, while All Nippon Airways will cancel all flights to and from Hachijo Island, some 280 kilometers south of the Japanese capital.
