MATSUYAMA, Japan - Police in western Japan have referred a former nursery school head and a childcare worker to prosecutors on suspicion of professional negligence after an 8-month-old boy choked on a piece of raw apple during lunch in 2023, sources close to the matter said Friday.
The pair were referred Wednesday for allegedly failing to take necessary precautions when serving slices of apple to Koshi Tamura at a nursery in Niihama, Ehime Prefecture, on May 16, 2023, causing him to choke and lose consciousness, according to the sources.
