Drill for tsunami evacuation by car conducted in Hokkaido, northern Japan

SAPPORO - Police on Tuesday conducted an evacuation drill using cars in Tomakomai based on the scenario of a major tsunami warning being issued for the Pacific coast of Hokkaido following a powerful earthquake.

More than 200 people, including residents and local government personnel, participated in the first-of-its-kind drill, conducted following traffic congestion after a tsunami warning was issued in Japan's northernmost main island last year.
