Japan automakers to revamp factory calendars from FY 2027 to draw workers

TOKYO - Carmakers belonging to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association plan to overhaul their factory work schedules from fiscal 2027, including reducing plant operations on national holidays, to better balance work and time with family.

In a bid to attract more workers, automakers will also review industry practices that include taking days off on weekdays during Japan's Golden Week holiday period. The idea is to align with the country's national calendar.
