Japan's Hamaoka nuclear plant restart applications to be withdrawn: source

Chubu Electric Power Co. plans to withdraw its applications for regulatory screening to restart reactors at the Hamaoka nuclear power plant in central Japan, a government source said Friday, in a rare move for a utility in the resource-poor country.

Chubu Electric said the same day that it had received a report from a committee investigating the utility's intentional adjustment of seismic data used in the restart screening to meet regulatory requirements.
