Mt. Koya temple lodging operators underreported over 100 mil. yen in income

OSAKA - Several religious corporations operating temple lodgings on Mt. Koya, a UNESCO World Heritage site in western Japan, have failed to report a total of more than 100 million yen ($650,000) in income, sources familiar with the matter said Thursday.

The Osaka Regional Taxation Bureau uncovered the undeclared income in audits conducted in fiscal 2025 ended March, with around 60 million yen in additional taxes to be imposed on the entities, the sources said.
