KUMAMOTO, Japan - Confectionery maker Koike-Ya Inc. said Wednesday it will sell potato chips flavored with Kumamoto Prefecture's famed beef, donating part of the proceeds to support the southwestern Japan prefecture's recovery from the July earthquake.
The company halted production for more than two weeks at its factory in Kumamoto's Mashiki due to the magnitude-7.1 quake, which toppled potato containers and damaged machinery, although no one was injured. Production resumed on Aug. 17.
