Beach resort in N. Korea draws thousands of domestic tourists

BEIJING - A beach resort on North Korea's east coast that opened in July last year has drawn thousands of domestic tourists, with facilities significantly expanded, according to reports by state-run media.

The Wonsan Kalma tourist area, located along a 4-kilometer white sand beach facing the Sea of Japan, houses hotels, restaurants, a department store and leisure facilities including pools featuring water slides and a videogame arcade. The beach area can accommodate up to 40,000 people per day, the reports said.
