TOKYO - North Korea on Thursday fired a suspected ballistic missile that appears to have already fallen, with no impact seen on Japan and its surrounding area, according to the Japanese Defense Ministry.
South Korea separately said its military detected a short-range ballistic missile launched from the Wonsan area on North Korea's east coast around 5 p.m.
The Japanese ministry said the projectile is not believed to have fallen within the country's exclusive economic zone.
The Japanese government has ordered relevant ministries to ensure the safety of airplanes and ships while gathering and analyzing information on the launch.
