MANILA - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi are set to hold talks in Manila on Wednesday, a U.S. official said.
Rubio, who is in the Philippines' capital, is scheduled to meet with Wang in person on the sidelines of meetings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the official said Tuesday. The top diplomats are likely to make arrangements for Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to Washington.
When President Donald Trump met with Xi in Beijing in mid-May, despite the two countries' intense geopolitical rivalry, they agreed to stabilize the bilateral relationship and meet next on Sept. 24 at the White House.
