PARIS - Sumo grand champion Onosato and other stars of the sport arrived Wednesday in Paris ahead of their two-day exhibition tournament in the French capital at the weekend.

The 26-year-old yokozuna smiled and responded to greetings from local media and bystanders at Charles de Gaulle airport near Paris.

Ozeki Kotozakura and young Ukrainian star Aonishiki were also among the arriving wrestlers.

The Japan Sumo Association exhibition through Sunday will include ring-entering ceremonies and bouts between wrestlers from the elite-makuuchi division.

If multiple wrestlers are tied for the lead at the end of the tournament, a playoff will be held to decide the winner.

It will be the association's first overseas exhibition since last October in London and the third to be held in Paris, following similar events in 1986 and 1995.

The association's traveling party of roughly 130 people was split into two groups, with Mongolian-born yokozuna Hoshoryu among those who landed a day earlier.
