TOKYO - The Nikkei stock index on Monday ended above the 65,000 line for the first time, fueled by hopes the United States and Iran will soon reach an agreement to end their war.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 1,819.12 points, or 2.87 percent, from Friday at 65,158.19. The broader Topix index finished 50.11 points, or 1.29 percent, higher at a record 3,942.57.
